Temodal 250mg

Temodal 250 mg refers to antitumor agents that have an alkylating effect. The active substance in its composition is temozolomide. This remedy is used in the treatment of newly diagnosed multiform glioblastoma, other malignant gliomas, as well as metastatic skin melanoma.

Mechanism of action of Temodal

Temozolomide, getting into the patient’s body, undergoes a rapid chemical transformation. As a result, a biologically active compound is formed which has a direct cytotoxic effect on malignantly degenerated cells.

Application Protocol

Temodal 250 mg is available in capsular form, intended for oral administration. The capsule must be swallowed whole without damaging the integrity of its shell. The remedy is administered on an empty stomach and not less than one hour before meals. In the treatment of multiform glioblastoma combined therapy with Temodal 250 mg combined with radiation effects is used. The standard dosage of the remedy is 75 mg per 1 m2 of the patient’s body area every day for 42 days. In the treatment of metastatic melanoma, taking of Temodal is recommended only in adult patients. The standard dosage is 200 mg per 1 m2 of body area once a day for 5 days. Then there is a break of 23 days. If a patient with melanoma has already received chemotherapy for this disease, the dosage of Temodal is reduced to 150 mg per 1 m2 of body area.

Contraindications of Temodal:

allergic reactions to temozolomide, dacarbazine and any other components that make up Temodal;
high degree of suppression of hematopoiesis;
pregnancy and lactation;
patient’s age is less than 3 years in the treatment of gliomas;
age of the patient is less than 18 years with treatment with glioblast or melanoma;
intolerance to galactose, lactase deficiency.

Efficiency of taking

Temodal 250 mg demonstrated improved results in comparison with the control group in clinical trials. A particular feature of this remedy is its ability to relatively easily penetrate the blood-brain barrier, as well as the minimum number of side effects.

Interaction with other remedies

In the course of studies of the interaction of Temodal 250 mg with other pharmacological agents, no clinically significant results were obtained.
