Porto Rico, originally opened in 1907 by Italian immigrant Patsy Albonese. Greenwich Village at the time was experiencing an influx of Italian immigrants, Coffeee.Uk who had opened businesses in order to meet their food needs. Albanese named the shop after the popular Puerto Rican Coffee she imported and sold - a beverage that was so renowned in the moment that the Pope would drink it.

Today, Porto Rico sells 130 varieties of beans from all over the world at three locations in New York City including their Bleecker Street location, Essex Market and online. The company roasts its own beans and provides wholesale distribution to 350 restaurants in NYC and Brooklyn.

Peter Longo, the current owner and president of the business was raised over the bakery of his family on Bleecker Street where his father was the owner of Porto Rico. He still runs the business in the same way as his grandfather and father.

Sey Coffee

Located along Grattan Street in Morgantown, Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood, Sey Coffee is both a cafe and a roaster. Tobin Polk, Lance Schnorenberg and their 33-year-old co-founders started roasting coffee in the loft on the fourth floor just across the street in the year 2011. They called it Lofted Coffee. Local clients included Greenpoint's Budin and Soho cart services Peddler and Peddler.

Sey's focus on buying micro-lots, or even whole harvests from single farmers has earned him the respect of New York City coffee enthusiasts. In the past they made a 6-bag micro-lot purchase of Danilo Dones Sitio Catucai 785 from Brazil's Espirito Santo region. The beans were harvested at their peak ripeness and floated to remove any defects. They were then dried on the farm following a 36-hour dry fermentation. The result is a blend that has hints of the melon and berry.

Sey's commitment goes beyond its shop to improve the overall wellbeing of growers and staff, as well as customers. It makes use of biodegradable plastics and composts, preventing waste from garbage and converting it into substances that help reduce harmful greenhouse gases and nourish soil. It also does away with gratuity, a move that puts baristas in a position to support their livelihoods as well as encourage them to focus on their craft.

La Cabra

La Cabra is a modern specialty coffee brand that was established in Aarhus, Denmark in 2012. It started with a small shop and a dedicated team. Their honesty and ingenuity to delivering a truly exceptional coffee experience has earned their acclaim not just in their home town but also around the world.

La Carba follows a strict procedure to identify their ideal beans. They scour hundreds of beans each year in order to find those that best meet their standards. They Lavazza Medium Roast Italian Espresso Coffee Beans 1kg them light, adjusting the desired flavor profile. This results in clearer and more vibrant taste.

The East Village store opened last October, with a minimalist and sleek design, and has been praised by international coffee enthusiasts for its scrumptious pour overs and baked goods, which are overseen by head baker Jared Sexton, who's previously worked at Bien Cuit and Dominique Ansel.

The shop is equipped with the La Marzocco modbar and the cups and plates are designed specifically for Wurtz ceramics in Horsens, an artist-run by a father and son. In a recent Q&A interview with Atlanta Coffee Shops, General Manager Ian Walla reveals that La Cabra serves about 250 different types of coffees each year, and usually has seven or eight varieties available at any given point.

The Plant Coffee Roasting Plant Coffee

The Roasting Plant is the only multi-unit coffee retailer that roasts on-site and brews to order with every cup of coffee roasted and brewed according to your preferences in less than a minute. It scour the globe for the highest quality specialty beans that are sourced directly to give customers the option of the option of choice and quality.

The on-site roaster employs fluid bed technology that is a bit different to the drum-type machines that are commonly used in the majority of UK coffee shops. The beans are blown around in a heated container by high-speed air which keeps the green beans suspended and allows roasting to happen in a steady manner as they move through the machine.

I tried the Sumatran Coffee and it was incredibly rich and velvety with a velvety flavor. Dark chocolate was evident in the aroma, and as you sip the coffee you could smell subtle citrus fruit aromas.

The coffee that has been roasted will be transferred to the store's Eversys Super-Automatic brewing Machines and brewed according to your specifications within less than a minute. Customers can select from a variety of single origins and a wide range of blends.

Parlor Coffee

Parlor Coffee was founded in 2012 in a barbershop with a single group Cherry Storm Espresso Kaffeebohnen - Premium 1kg Arabica machine. It has since morphed into a bustling coffee roastery, and its beans can be found in great cafes as well as restaurants and home brewers throughout the city. Parlor is committed to sourcing high-quality beans from across the globe Each one has endured a laborious journey before reaching the roasters.

The owners, who self-described as "passionate about the craft and believe that a good cup of coffee should be accessible to everyone," have created a space that is grounded and has chalkboards, compost bins, recycled handmade products, and a minimalist interior.

They roast their own blends (there were six when I was there) and single-origins, but they also host cuppings on Sundays that are open to the public. Think of it as a tasting room for breweries. You can smell and taste the ground beans, ranging from chocolaty to earthy (one was almost tomato-like!). They're a bit away from the tourist trail, but worthwhile to visit.
