Mechanism of action of Truvada

Tenofovir and emtricitabine are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. This enzyme plays an important role in the reproduction of the human immunodeficiency virus, providing transcription of viral RNA, and, consequently, the possibility of its incorporation into the DNA of the carrier cell. Accordingly, the effective taking of Truvada will only be if its reception will be started even before the genetic material of the virus penetrates into the genome of the affected cell.

Protocol of reception of Truvada.

Truvada is intended for oral administration and is available in tablet form. The usual dosage for an adult is one tablet containing 300 mg of tenofovir and 200 mg of emtricitabine per day. Strict binding to the time of eating is not required.

Efficacy of the remedy.

The high effectiveness of the prevention of human immunodeficiency virus infection with Truvada was confirmed in at least two large placebo-controlled clinical trials. According to the data that were received during their conduct, the daily intake of this remedy reduces the risk of HIV infection during sexual intercourse by 40-70%.

Interaction with other remedies.

Truvada should be used with caution in conjunction with didanosine, because these remedies can enhance each other’s action. In addition, Truvada in combination with atazanavir should be prescribed against the background of taking ritonavir.

Important points and special instructions for Truvada:

Treatment with Truvada medication does not prevent the possibility and risk of infection or transmission of HIV during the entire rehabilitation, so be careful not to infect another person. If a patient is taking Hepatitis B medication with Truvada, it is not advisable to use it and is not recommended by doctors, since this can have a detrimental effect on the general state of health.

Side effects when using Truvada:

In the course of the studies, they were seen in a small number of patients, but they can be detected both at the beginning and at the end of treatment and before acquiring Truvada one should familiarize with them: mild fatigue and malaise; headaches or migraines; disorders of the digestive tract (diarrhea or constipation); nausea with attacks of vomiting; an allergic reaction or a rash on the body.
